Ms Owenby presents the Audubon prints to Mike Gibbons, Board Chairperson.

Book of Audubon Prints Donated to Museum

Mellonee Owenby, Vice-President of Burke Christian Tours, of Newton, has donated a copy of American Heritage Press' Limited Collector's Folio Edition of the New York Historical Society Prints of John James Audubon Original Watercolor Paintings of his Birds of America, published in 1966. The Museum's copy is numbered 590.

This set includes over four hundred color plates of, as the title indicates, the New York Historical Society's original watercolors for the "Birds of America" series, Audubon's most famous creations, as well as a large-format book discussing each of the prints in detail. Audubon (1785-1851) was  renowned for his adventurous nature, his artistic genius, and his obsessive interest in birds. Some of the prints will be displayed at the Museum later this year.

The Museum is grateful to Ms Owenby for this generous gift.

Building Improvements

In October, the Museum’s landlord, Caldwell County Schools, installed a new heating plant in the Museum building. The heat is now much more efficient, more easily controlled, and is even throughout the building.

Plans are under way for a new roof. Bid will be let at the January Board meeting (Jan. 19). The roof should be in place within the next couple of months.

The Museum is grateful to Caldwell County Schools for these needed building improvements.

You know I love the Museum and will always try to help in any way I can. Just let me know how things are going. Betty Buss” The Board regrets losing Betty as a member and is grateful for her continued interest.
