FIELD TRIP

On February 25, eight board members and two volunteers went to the History Museum of Burke County, where Wayne Hitt and several helpers guided the group through the facility and gave a progress report on the purchase and renovation of the building that houses the Museum. Phyllis Wogan took the group to the Depot for the railroad displays there.

Following lunch at Judges Riverside in Morganton, the group visited the Waldensian Museum in Valdese.  After a short film giving an overview of the Waldensian community, Gretchen Lane-Costner, along with three other assistants, guided the group through the facility. Some made purchases in the Museum’s gift shop. As a bonus, they got to see the interior of the Waldensian Presbyterian Church.

In the past the group has visited three historic sites in Ashe County and the Lincoln County Historical Association. The trips are funded by the individual board members with nothing coming from the Museum’s budget. Another trip is planned for late summer or early autumn.
