The room before its fresh coat of paint and thorough
reorganization in the latter part of 2010.
In the Summer of 2010,
Museum volunteers Lynda Campbell, Andrea Calloway, and
Barbara Watson "adopted" this room. In that role, they organize, label,
update, and make displays more attractive as
well as making recommendations to the Museum
Director and/or the Board of Directors
regarding needs.
They played an important
role in the room's renovations. |
The
Early Days room
is on the Museum's
second floor. An open fireplace, a rope bed, and household
items suggest life at home in Caldwell County's earlier history.
The
city of Lenoir was officially established through the
auctioning of land lots in 1841. European settlers had
occupied the area for close to a hundred years before that,
following on the many hundreds of years of Cherokee
presence and of other Native Americans even earlier.
Caldwell County, of which Lenoir is the county seat, was
also formed in 1841.

Ropes were the
"springs"
for early beds. |

While this suggests
fine embroidery,
it is in fact carefully pressed flowers. |

the Museum's first floor Stage.) |

The room also
displays some later crafts, such as this baby bed cover
from the 1920's. |
